Amateur theatre
in Matlock

In 1937, Jessica Hazelwood gathered a group of theatre-lovers at the High Tor Guest House on Dale Road, Matlock. They decided to form a club, for improvisation, mime and the reading of plays. They called themselves the High Tor Players. We've been going ever since.

We perform two or three times a year. Sometimes touring the village halls around Matlock, sometimes settling under the lights of the Imperial Rooms. Pantomimes, Shakespeare, Pulitzer drama, home-grown revues, there is little we won't take a run at, so long as it puts good work in front of a real audience.

"I did want to record somewhere how great the group is for new members such as myself. Everyone has been so welcoming, something that is certainly not the case with all groups." - A recent new member
